Son impeccable technique, la beauté naturelle de son timbre, la clarté de sa diction et surtout l’émotion qu’il parvient à communiquer dans son chant en font assurément un des plus grands titulaires du rôle [Orfeo] à l’heure actuelle. (Resmusica)

Biography

Chosen by William Christie, Cyril Auvity started his career under his direction, performing Telemaco in Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2000 and later the Teatro Real in Madrid. He continued his collaboration with William Christie with Charpentier’s David & Jonathas and Lully’s Atys in a staging by Jean-Marie Villegier. More recently, he sang in Rameau’s Les fêtes d’Hébé at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, conducted by William Christie and directed by Robert Carsen.

Specialized in ancient music, he sang Persée by Lully with Hervé Niquet, the title role of Rameau’s Pygmalion at Théâtre du Châtelet; Purcell‘s Dido and Eneas alongside Jane Glover, the title role of Charpentier’s Actéon and Lully’s Thésée (directed by Jean-Louis Martinoty) under the baton of Emmanuel Haïm, Acis in Handel’s Acis and Galatea with Le Banquet Céleste conducted by Damien Guillon and directed by Anne-Laure Liégeois; Monteverdi’s Orfeo (title role) with Les Arts Florissants conducted by Paul Agnew (DVD edited by Harmonia Mundi). He added further new roles in concert version to his repertory like Purcell’s King Arthur with Joël Suhubiette and Handel‘s Partenope with Ottavio Dantone.

He has regularly cooperated with Christophe Rousset since his beginning: The Fairy Queen, Tespis/Mercure in Rameau’s Platée at the Opera National du Rhin (directed by Mariame Clément) and Cavalli’s La Calisto ( Pan/Natura, directed by Macha Makeïeff) at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées to name a few.

In Mozartian Roles, he starred as Don Ottavio under the baton of Emmanuel Krivine, then Tamino and Monostatos in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra de Bordeaux (directed by Laura Scozzi). Interested in the modern repertoire, he was the Cabaret director in Phillipe Boesmans‘s Pinochio, directed by Joël Pommerat at the Opéra de Bordeaux.

His solo album “Stances du Cid” was released by Glossa and awarded by a Diapason d’Or. Among his later recordings are Charpentier’s La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfers and a recital devoted to Constantin Huygens, issued in 2020.

Recent highlights includes Platée (Tespis, Mercure) in Robert Carsen’s staging conducted by William Christie at the Theater an der Wien; Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes (Valère, Tacmas) at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich with Ivor Bolton and Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui; Marin Marais’s Alcyone (Ceix), directed by Louise Moaty under the baton of Jordi Savall at the Opéra-Comique in Paris; and Charpentier’s Médée (Jason) in David McVicar’s production at the Grand Théâtre de Genève with Leonardo García Alarcón.

He also appeared at the Theater an der Wien in Cavalli’s La Rappresentatione di Anima e di Corpo with Giovanni Antonini and Robert Carsen. With Vincent Dumestre and Le Poème Harmonique, he sang Durón’s Coronis at the Teatro Real and Renaud in Lully’s Armide. He has also collaborated closely with L’Arpeggiata and Les Épopées in Lully’s Alceste.

In the 2025/2026 season, Cyril will appear in Purcell’s King Arthur with Le Concert Spirituel at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, take the title role in Landi’s La Morte d’Orfeo at Theater an der Wien, and join Les Épopées and Le Poème Harmonique in major productions of Lully, Charpentier, and Monteverdi across Europe.
